Is InstantCommons a good thing? Or is it a lot of trouble to set up for each wiki? Could it be set up by default on all wikis?

Does it help ShoutWiki by saving on storage space, etc.? Would InstantCommons by default on all wikis actually cause too many images to be cached locally on ShoutWiki?

Or too many megabytes/gigabytes worth of images due to the high-resolution images stored on the Commons that would also be cached locally when used on Shoutwiki? Or due to the increase in images that would be used on all wikis.

Does InstantCommons cache only the image sizes used on the wiki? If so, that would help keep the storage needs down locally. That is true because the high-resolution, high kilobytes versions of Commons images are rarely used on wiki pages. Pages use various thumb sizes for the most part. --Timeshifter (talk) 23:44, 23 December 2013 (UTC)

According to me, this is a good idea. Gorden 17:10, 22 January 2014 (UTC)
I don't know about the cache use, but I think IntantCommons is a very good thing, as you can use any Wikipedia sister projects' file without uploading, in one instant. I think it saves a lot of storage, as many wikis reuse the same icons. But I think many users waste storage because they even don't know they can use it.

I think there are more benefits about the storage, than disadvantages. PERCE-NEIGE (talk) 11:28, 24 February 2019 (UTC)
